Gen 6 Glocks - For a long time, the GLOCK G46 was a closely guarded secret and only available on government recommendation. For the first time, the Austrian manufacturer offers a gun with a rotating bolt and decocking system. We tested the new gun of the German state police of Saxony-Anhalt. Read on to find out what she did on set!
The G46 is GLOCK's answer to the German police technical requirements (TR) for pistols. Of course it is a limited time, because most of the German federal states have already received new guns of the previous generation. However, GLOCK managed to find a target in the German state of Saxony-Anhalt (see article). There, approximately 8,600 G46 pistols will be produced until the year 2021. Rumors continue that the TR police deliberately wrote at that time that the "class leader" should stand on the international stage.

Also found on the G46 are cock serrations in the front sliding area as well as the right stop.

Another sticking point in technology, which GLOCK has failed so far, is that the gun can be disassembled without pulling the trigger. The biggest mistake of experienced shooters is that after checking the security, the police can see the difference. At the very least, you can teach a training course where the trigger is used only for shooting. This also represents the design behind the G46 slide, which sparked many rumors when the first G46 images made the rounds. There was a request to speed up the fire, but the truth was more visible, although it was not very pathetic, because it was a decorative thing. Of course, the gun can be controlled only after a short pull. Therefore, accidental damage, for example in the holster, is completely impossible. To remove the gun, you also need to use a small piece on the left side of the handle, so in various Internet platforms there is a hand guard.
The actual new GLOCK area is also found inside when the gun is disassembled. While all other pistols made by the Austrian manufacturer work with the Browning-SIG-Petter locking system, the G46 is based on a rotating barrel. However, this has nothing to do with technical requirements. According to GLOCK, this principle has been studied for a long time, because it allows the lower barrel axis. In the past, some manufacturers tried the rotary system with guns, such as B&T TSP, Colt All American, Beretta 8000 Cougar or Mauser M2, which disappeared from the market. Today, the Italian Beretta PX-4Storm and Slovak Grand Power K100 are still available.
Compared to the G19 (left), it is easy to see how deep the barrel axis can sit along with the movement of the rotation.
Although the famous inventor John Moses Browning had created a revolver gun as early as 1897, the 1907 Roth-Steyr was the first bolt gun produced in "large" quantities. It also has a pre-loaded trigger, just like a GLOCK. A very interesting pistol, which shows the wonders of what was possible at the time with limited production capacity. The Roth-Steyr pistol closes the circle with Austria as well. In fact, the revolver bots are said to be more accurate, because the barrel is not tilted or controlled like the Browning-SIG-Petter system, but only rotates. The rotary locking system is said to be subject to high wear, especially if the locking position is not properly selected or has the appropriate equipment. According to the manufacturer, both the locking mechanism and the locking mechanism have been improved. According to GLOCK, testing by the Ulm Proof House showed that all three guns, each with more than 10,000 rounds, showed no cracks, damage or measurable wear other than uneven cycling.

Anyone shooting the G46 for the first time probably won't be surprised by its unique features. Looking at the TriggerScan it clearly shows that we need a pull weight of about 137, 56 oz / 3900 g and a trigger travel of about 0.59" / 15 mm to break the trigger. of about 30 N, corresponding to a trigger weight of about 104 oz / 2950 g. According to TR, it should be between 0.39 "-0.59" / 10-15 mm trigger travel, or the first shot. Since we are currently in the requirements, it should also be said that the trigger return should be 0.157 "/ 4 mm. It remains to be seen whether it makes hitting the target easier or simply makes the handling of the gun easier. It is a clear question for the developer or the user, who should take it for granted. As an option, GLOCK offers the G46 with a trigger weight of 88.18 oz / 2.5 kg and a short trigger travel.
Although the GLOCK 46 looks very sophisticated, care has been taken to handle each part as much as possible according to the GLOCK philosophy. Therefore, the new generation from Deutsch-Wagram has 37 parts and therefore 3 more than the G19. By the way, if you want to know more about the G46 and the rotating system, you can take a closer look at the published patent EP 3179193A1. We chose an indent of 0.014 "/ 0.36 mm for the stroke of the steel pressure cylinder using a chamber gauge provided by the company Triebel, with an indent approximately in the middle. 0.3 mm with a large eccentricity of 0.007" / 0.2 mm.
However, the shooting element cannot be completely removed and cannot be lost. Yes, when the slide is opened...
The size of the G46 is the same as that of the G19, so the magazine holds 15 cartridges. The grip quickly draws attention because of the spur elongated grip. The highly abrasion-resistant nDLC coating (Diamond as Carbon), which became standard in the fifth generation, is also available in this range of services. The magazine release button is retracted to the left, the release stop is on both sides like the GLOCK Gen5 pistols. The 3.9" / 100 mm long barrel features the new GLOCK Marksman Barrel (GMB), which guarantees accuracy. with a smooth metal look with a bright dot.

The first shot was done in the birthplace of the G46, at GLOCK's. After the invitation to Deutsch-Wagram, which started with technical advice, we ended up with an interior shoot. Here we were able to shoot the G46 and G19 with plenty of RUAG Action 4 ammo. And frankly, the G46 seemed a lot more comfortable to shoot. The additional weight of 0.9 oz / 26 g compared to the G19 is probably not the reason. Obviously, the rotation of the bottle has a positive effect on the shooting process. Back home, the test of his integrity followed. Since the G46 is undoubtedly a compact pistol, we chose a distance of 15 m with the help of a sandbag for the test. This time 7 items were used, including 4 factory cartridges, which were TR certified as pistols. With a diameter of 0.94”/ 24 mm, the RUAG Action 5 ammo with a solid 94gr bullet had the best average results for the two-five-round groups. The second place in the accuracy test remained in the same place: RUAG Action 4 and reinforced SeCa cartridges both reached in the group 1.3 "/ 33 mm. It was followed by the light 89 gr MEN Quick Defense with 1.49 "/ 38 mm, which achieved the highest energy of all the cartridges tested with 511 J . The average of all the loads was 1.53 "/ 39 mm. 'the G46 us even in some working conditions.
GLOCK probably did not save money or effort in creating a gun designed for the unique - and important in Germany - TR guide. the
